FAQ

MAke it Make Sense

The Hobby Spiral is a little bit different. This page hopefully clears up things I haven't condensed into the summary or haven't figured out how to convey yet, kinda like a deeper dive.

Are You a Therapy studio?

Nope!

The Hobby Spiral is not therapy, counseling, or clinical mental health care.
I’m not an art therapist, life coach, or clinician and I don’t pretend to be one.

We’re a creative wellness space = cozy studio where we use crafting as a tool for grounding, comfort, expression, and getting unstuck.

So… is this just an arts & crafts club?

Also no.

We do make things, but the craft is just the vehicle.

Mental health concepts/themes are tied in to explore, but they're 100% optional.

You make a thing and maybe, find a new passion, pick up a tiny coping skill or find  smol joy to grow with. The priority is offering a creative place to explore, reset, or enjoy creating something.

What makes this “mental health support” if it’s not clinical?

Everything here is designed for the big brain moments we all have:

  • Burnt out? → Craft.

  • Overwhelmed? → Craft.

  • Lonely? → Craft & Connect.

  • Intimidated? → Craft in a low-pressure space.

  • Dealing with Life? → Craft through it.

I share bite-sized things I’ve learned (radical acceptance, reframing, emotional resets, perfectionism hacks), but you choose how deep you want to go.

There’s no forced sharing. No “tell us your story.”
Just a supportive space where the theme is there if you want it.

Do I have to talk about mental health while I’m here?

Not at all.

You can come, sit, listen, craft, zone out, chat about your dog (we love dogs), whatever feels right.

Some people come for the theme, some for the social energy, some for the quiet.
All are welcome.

Do you lead support groups?

No.

This is not a peer support group, therapy group, or processing group.
It’s a creative hangout with grounding tools baked in.
You decide what you do with the theme or the discussion.

Do I need to be an artist or creative?

No way!

You don't have to be anything. No experience needed. Come messy, burnt out, awkward, excited, or all of the above. We'll meet you where you are, just show up.

Is this neurodivergent friendly?

This part.

The studio is built to be accessible, sensory-aware, and welcoming for all kinds of brains. No big lights around here partner. Groups are less than 6 people unless you register as your own group. As previously mentioned, our spiral system is social consent.

You can opt into socializing or hard pass using our spiral system.
We use clear signage, gentle pacing, and flexible participation.
See our "what to expect" section on the how does it work page :)

Do you give advice?

Not advice, but maybe perspective.

That said, I do talk openly about mental health from my own experience if it naturally comes up in conversation. It’s nice to connect over shared human stuff. I (mostly) find comfort in relatability.
